Euthanasia, is it right or wrong? By Alex Ritchie

Euthanasia and what exactly is it?

We all hate suffering, right, but later it just goes away. Now imagine feeling the same painful suffering but it never goes away because you have a incurable disease. Would you continue with your suffering or will you get it over with and tell the doctor to pull the plug. Well this is a basic definition of Euthanasia.  Now you might think its their choice if they want to, basically, commit suicide. Even if they ask the doctor to end their life it was their intention, it’s like asking someone to push you off a bridge.

What does the Catholic Church have to say about this?

The Church believes that we don’t have the right to ‘Play God’. Deuteronomy 32:39 “It is I who bring both death and life”. We all know that the catholic church is against murder and isn’t suicide murdering yourself which makes Euthanasia suicide and therefore Euthanasia is murder. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (2277) states “Whatever its motives and means, direct euthanasia consists in putting an end to the lives of handicapped, sick, or dying persons. It is morally unacceptable”.

If the patient is going through intense pain, he should see this pain as a test from God. Maybe the test was that if you go through this suffering until the end of your life then God will reward you eternity without suffering but if you choose to end your life before God intended to then he might not reward you and you wont be sure where you might go when you die, which to me is scary.

The Catholic Church believes that if we allow handicapped, sick, or dying people to just end their lives that Euthanasia would be taken for granted and that people who don’t have such serious injuries or might have mental problems that they might see Euthanasia as an option. Have you ever watched Futurama, well they have a suicide booth where you go in put a few cents in the booth and the booth will end your life, that is what the Catholic Church fears. They want us to cherish our life and live it the way God intend and to die the way God intended.

My thoughts on Euthanasia

After Researching I was able to learn much more about Euthanasia than i thought. Euthanasia is wrong and should never be allowed. God planned your life before you were born, He knows whats going to happen to you and does it for a reason, like i said before it’s probably a test. My mum once told me ‘never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known god’ so if I once end up with a incurable disease I should trust that God knows what his doing instead of going through Euthanasia.

“Not all moral issues have the same moral weight as abortion and euthanasia. There may be legitimate diversity of opinion even among Catholics about waging war and applying the death penalty, but not… with regard to abortion and euthanasia.”
―Pope Benedict XVI

  1. The image of the clenched fist and the heart beat spiking and then become flat is very creative. I also agree along with the Catholic Church as I am Catholic myself and I am taught the same teachings as others.
